Partners | Why is This Happening?
Why People with ADHD Date People Who Struggle
Remember when you were a child… well dating people who struggle is like eating too much sugar—it tastes good at the time, but you end up feeling sort of sad and sick afterward. Like sugar, the drama is addictive.
There’s much to be said about a real, deep, honest adult partnership. It takes lots of work and tolerance, but it also adds value to your life. We all bring life-experiences to our relationships and those with ADHD often chose partners with complex backgrounds who seek to be understood also. Let’s explore why…
Never Hurt in a Relationship Again
Even though we know we shouldn’t, far too many of us end up settling for guys/gals who don’t see how special we truly are. When you’re lonely, it can be tough to wait for someone who’s worth it, but no matter how long it takes to find him/her, the ultimate way to avoid heartbreak is ‘stay with ourselves’ through the tough times. Let’s explore why…
5 Secrets of Successful ADHD Relationships
Sometimes it can feel like ADHD is a third person in the relationship. No one prepared you for this, and you can’t choose who you fall for – right.
Nonetheless, ADHD doesn’t have to break your relationship or put a strain on it to the point where it’s hard to enjoy. By understanding ADHD in general and how it affects both your partner and your relationship, you can love each other more deeply and connect in a new way. Educating yourself is a great first step to a successful ADHD relationship. Let’s get started…
3 Ways People with ADHD Can Form Healthy Intimate Relationships
You know that feeling you get when you’re waiting for someone to text you back? Your stomach is flooded with butterflies and your heart flutters in a weird rhythm? Well, for someone with ADHD, that feeling is constantly present.
We understand we live with passion. Dating someone with ADHD, it can be hard to understand why that feeling doesn't just subside, or why you can't fix it. If you want the relationship of your wildest dreams, these 3 strategies will light the way.
Understanding triggers is key.

A-List Formula: Autism Understood
JUST AS A TREE NEEDS CERTAIN CONDITIONS IN WHICH TO BLOSSOM, SO DO THOSE WITH AUTISM.
JUST AS A TREE NEEDS CERTAIN CONDITIONS IN WHICH TO BLOSSOM, SO DO THOSE WITH AUTISM.
The A-List Formula™ has been designed as a complete framework for understanding autism.
It encompasses a robust toolkit to transform the lives of those with autism, their caretakers and their families.
Unlike other models, it understands the heightened sensitivities, awareness, struggles, and brilliance in a way you have always instinctively known, yet never dared hope.
THE DEEPER THE ROOTS, THE GREATER THE FRUIT
THE DEEPER THE ROOTS, THE GREATER THE FRUIT
THE 3 R'S
The A-List Formula™ is best illustrated in a tree. The tree represents how the individual with autism can be uniquely understood and encouraged to flourish.
Rather than focusing on a disorder, the 3 R’s illustrate how unique individuals need individualized and often innovative settings, as well as a true understanding and strong therapeutic relationship to blossom.
A positive and complete framework that supports the whole family as well as the person with autism, providing educators and caregivers with informed, structured solutions is the core of this model.
REGULATE
The RESILIENT ROOTS represent grounding & nurture and are home to Super Powers!
RESTORE
It’s vital that the CORE IS RESTORED of sensitivities and challenges.
RADITATE
The BRILLANT BLOSSOMS are where gifts, passion, and purpose shine through.
THE ‘3 R’S’ MAKE IT EASY TO UNDERSTAND WHAT’S GOING ON
WITH AN INDIVIDUAL WITH AUTISM, AND WHAT THEY NEED TO THRIVE.
THE ‘3 R’S’ MAKE IT EASY TO UNDERSTAND WHAT’S GOING ON
WITH AN INDIVIDUAL WITH AUTISM, AND WHAT THEY NEED TO THRIVE.
REGULATE
The regulating roots are home to Super Powers! These are the critical ways the individual with autism learns to regulate, ground, and find peace, relief, and calm.
GRIT & GROUNDING
Finding what regulates and implementing this daily is a necessity (not a luxury) for those with autism.
GRIT & GROUNDING
Finding what regulates and implementing this daily is a necessity (not a luxury) for those with autism.
EXPLORE DEEPER
- This is where we fill up, become whole, breathe, find relief, calm, and restore. We become free.
- It’s everything to us to have relief from the overwhelm. This time and these activities where we fill up is what makes us truly happy in our souls.
- Everybody’s different. Some fill up with music, others with nature, exercise, art, math, time alone, etc.
- When we’re grounded, everything becomes easier and life is happy and creative.
- Without regulating we fall into chaos, misery, depression, and lose our sense of self extremely quickly.
- Regulating is a necessity, not a luxury. Please know how important this is and help us!
- Know the importance of grounding and ensure environment and activities include it.
- Once you find the unique combination for regulating, you’ll have calm. So keep going until you find it.
- It’s vital to incorporate grounding techniques into daily life and allow plenty of time.
- Without these in place there’s chaos and disruption. Regulating and grounding has to take priority.
- Experiment - try out new things, people, places, environments. Take time to observe.
- Some behaviors seem odd. Know the difference between anxiety and healthy regulating.
- It’s vital you fill up. Women and caregivers often forget. You also need relief and wholeness.
- You need to shine your own light, be calm and a role model for others. You’re important too.
- Seek what fills you. Take time. Sit with the stillness. Live for joy. Find your passion.
- When you’re full, you have patience for the monumental task of living with autism.
- When you’re empty it’s easy to get sick, tired, irritable, resentful and anxious.
- What do you do when you lose all track of time? What brings you peace? Do it!
RESTORE
We need to RESTORE THE CORE
There are 2 types of challenges within the trunk:
SENSITIVITY CHALLENGES
Due to innate sensitivities and overwhelm, (eg. noise, touch). These innate sensitivities can be accepted, accommodated and alleviated.
SOCIETY CHALLENGES
As a result of growing up in a hostile environment where one is isolated, etc. These challenges are external, can be overcome, and shouldn’t be confused with struggles due to innate sensitivities.

SOCIETY CHALLENGES
As a result of growing up in a hostile environment where one is isolated, etc. These challenges are external, can be overcome, and shouldn’t be confused with struggles due to innate sensitivities.
EXPLORE DEEPER
- We deal with our sensitivities, overwhelm, AND society so we’re actually extremely brave.
- When you give us kindness, patience, understanding and the time, it means the world to us.
- We become more ‘normal’ when we’re accepted instead of forced to be ‘normal’. We calm down then.
- Small changes make a big difference; earplugs, relaxed environments, your energy being calm.
- When our sensitivities are ignored, we feel out of control, afraid, full of fear and self-loathing.
- It helps that you keep learning what we’re sensitive to and find new ways to help us.
- Let them know that sensitivities are normal and are to be expected throughout their life.
- The care and confidence they learn with you will inspire others to treat them well, and change their lives.
- See the world through their eyes and their sensitivities. Accept. Accommodate. Alleviate.
- Small accommodations can make a huge difference. Be aware of both triggers and solutions.
- Understanding reduces fear, isolation, and increases a sense of joy, self, and belonging.
- Advocate confidently. They’re bravely facing overwhelm and society. They need you!
- We all have sensitivities and struggles. Identifying yours will help both you and your family.
- As you accept, love and help yourself, you’re able to understand and help others more. Big win.
- Take time and put your own oxygen mask on first. It isn’t selfish. It’s how you give more.
- Stop ignoring parts of you that need to be heard. You’ll have more calm, control, joy.
- Caring for YOU, too, changes depression, anxiety and overwhelm into clarity, calm, and relief.
- Experiment. Become self-aware. Rest. Sit with yourself for at least 5 mins a day.
RADIATE
The blossom radiating from the tree is due to 3 things:
PASSIONATE PETALS
Helping those with autism discover their passions, which brings them joy and wonder. It’s different from regulating or contribution.
CREATION'S CONTRIBUTION
Often known as vision or one's life purpose. Those with autism have this essence running through their veins. It’s vital they step into their gifts and talents rather than assume menial roles which break their spirit. Interestingly, lots of world-changers are on the spectrum and why many books written by children with autism say that 'they are here to show the rest of us the way home'.
BRANCHES OF BRILLIANCE
Represent the many gifts, talents, and islands of genius in those with autism. From the abilities to play music or draw without being taught to magnificent memories or aptitude for math, etc.
PASSIONATE PETALS
Helping those with autism discover their passions, which brings them joy and wonder. It’s different from regulating or contribution.

EXPLORE DEEPER
- Our difficult sensitivities are usually balanced with areas of innate brilliance.
- Believe in us. Help us discover our gifts and talents. We’re not just a ‘disorder’.
- Overwhelm is the price we pay for our deep elemental sense of life, wonder and purity.
- When we’re being exceptional, help us stay healthy. We need balance.
- Help us develop our passions too, so we get to live for the sheer joy of living.
- Many world-changers are on the spectrum. Nurture us so we live, give and thrive.
- This is the exciting part where heightened sensitivities give way to areas of brilliance.
- By understanding positives as well as the challenges, you understand the whole person.
- When regulated and calm, talents and passion flow. Avoid overwhelm.
- A sense of purpose, peace and confidence follow the discovery of areas of brilliance and passions.
- Expect unique gifts and talents. Seek them. The clues are often there. Fulfillment is vital.
- Let them know that their heightened sensitivity is a real gift despite the price at which it comes.
- Exceptional and unique gifts and talents often run in families where there’s autism.
- It’s essential to realize your own potential and become whole. Be the best role model.
- Believe your best life is possible. Create your vision. Have a big enough reason. One life.
- Living your passions and contribution brings fulfillment, excitement and peace. It’s vital.
- Don’t die with your song still in you. Brilliance isn’t only in others, it’s in everyone.
- Journal, create, schedule time to explore and step into who you truly are.

7 TIPS TO EMBRACING UNIQUE ADHD DIFFERENCES
Not only are you dealing with friend drama, learning to drive, and finding a job, you're also blessed with all that comes with having ADHD. We've got real advice on getting through... keep these on your desktop or your phone and give them a read when you need, and voila!
10 TOP TIPS TO HELP WITH ADHD ANGER
As I look back on my life I realize that all I have really done is learn. I’ve learned to love, I’ve learned anger, and most importantly I’ve learned that life is about learning. When we learn, we grow and we experience all that life has to offer. So here are 10 tips I have learned along the way to deal with ADHD anger...
BELIEVING IN YOURSELF WHEN YOU HAVE ADHD
Life can be hard enough, throwing us curve balls from all angles! So why beat yourself up along the way? Supporting ourselves to believe in who we are and what we have to offer will allow us to reach for the stars. Everyone is deserving of whatever it is in life they may wish to seek and it all starts from motivation within.
HOW TO GET SH*T DONE WHEN YOU HAVE ADHD
We all procrastinate. Netflix, naps, scrolling through Insta and tagging your friends in memes all distract us and stop us from doing our work until the very last minute. Regardless of why most of us can agree that it causes a heap of stress. Here’s how to avoid it.
HOW TO OVERCOME ADHD AND LIVE YOUR LIFE
Having ADHD can be a real shock Nowadays it’s up to you to be on top of your sh*t, and with ADHD there aren't truly short-term fixes. Don’t worry, we’ve all been there, and does get easier to manage (I promise), you just need to get some structure back into your life.
MAKING SENSE OF FEAR & LONELINESS WITH ADHD
Though sometimes it appears as though it’s a choice, loneliness hits us like a freaking freight train. It’s not a choice, it’s a requirement to function for those with ADHD. In a similar vein, we’re totally down to meet new people. The duality is actually kind of cool once you can make sense of it all.

THE A-LIST FORMULA
Life with ADHD comes with a heap of questions & decisions but lucky for you, there are no wrong answers. Our proprietary A-list Formula is a simple framework for making sense of ADHD. It focuses on unique ‘difference’ rather than ‘disorder.’ Explore the (3) R’s and more…
THE KEY TO BEING SUPER POPULAR
When you’re a young adult, it’s easy to get caught up in what everyone thinks of you. There’s drama about who is friends with who & whether the gossip is true. And amongst it all, everyone is just trying to make everyone like them–to be ‘popular’.
STOP HATING YOUR ADHD
Isn’t hindsight just the most amazing, beautiful, terrible thing? Hindsight, though, helps you learn, & you can use it to teach others. Fortunately for you guys, I’ve too have lived with ADHD and I’m here to make sure that you don’t repeat my mistakes (I’ve made a few of them).
YOGA, MEDITATION, & BREATHING
Chia seeds and yoga poses aren’t for everyone, but breathing is straight-up good for you, especially when you’re stressed out. If you’re not really versed in that side of things (and let’s face it, most of us aren’t) just close your eyes, inhale, exhale and see what happens.
