Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.” - Harriet Tubman

WHAT CAUSES THE FEAR

  • Feeling overwhelmed
  • Feeling different
  • Feeling alone
  • Being misunderstood
  • Not understanding why you feel different
  • Inability to make friends
  • Feeling hopeless… wondering if it will ever change
  • Feeling confined…. wanting life
  • Feeling out of control

A SPECIAL WORD ON TRAUMA

  • ADHD symptoms are traumatic.
  • This means that sometimes we freeze and can’t pay attention/ our brain shuts down.
  • Sometimes panic infuses our thoughts and scatters them all over the place.
  • Super sensitivity and heightened awareness mean everything has a greater impact.

Don't be afraid of your fears. They're not there to scare you. They're there to let you know that something is worth it.” - C. JoyBell C.

WHAT CAUSES THE LONELINESS?

  • A feeling of being different and estranged from society.
  • Feeling isolated; as if you’re the only person on the planet who feels this way.
  • Being left out, laughed at, ostracized, vilified.
  • Seeking quiet and time alone in order to think straight.
  • Wanting to join in the fun and laughter.

REASONS WHY FEAR AND LONELINESS HAPPEN

ADHD magnifies everything eg. senses such as hearing, touch, taste are heightened.

Good things are super good, and the bad things super bad. An emotional seesaw.

ADHD comes from being born different, but not in a bad way; unique, sensitive, and aware.

However, the results of some of the effects make for fear and loneliness:

Being aware and sensitive means that it’s difficult to concentrate on just one thing because there are so many things going on.

This makes it difficult to learn and understand when you’re not focused.

Since most people don’t have such acute sensitivity and awareness, it’s difficult for them to understand. What’s more, they pick up on problems and dysfunction and overlook the incredible brilliance, gifts, and talents.

It’s scary to be different (until you embrace it!) because everyone wants to belong.

When you become your true self, you become effortlessly popular.

It can feel scary, hopeless, and as if there’s no way out. Which is why we’re here, to help you make sense of this situation.

It’s scary because you know you have wonderful potential. Therefore, you just want to get out and live. Sitting in, working on homework, etc. is no fun.

SOLUTIONS TO FEAR AND LONELINESS:

UNDERSTAND

Until now, living without understanding will have been half of the problem. Learning about ADHD is a huge step.

KNOW YOU’RE UNIQUE

Accept you’re different and ok! Take care of the areas in which you struggle, and accentuate the areas where you shine.

FOCUS ON YOUR STRENGTHS

Instead of focusing on a ‘disorder’ as others have done, it’s important to seek your strengths and talents and run with them.

SIT QUIETLY WITH YOURSELF

A lot of the struggle comes from panic. Panic comes from being overwhelmed, and the way people react to you. Take time, relax, breathe, know you’ve got this, and that all is well.

STOP TRYING SO HARD!

People with ADHD try so hard at everything, and particularly at people-pleasing. Let go, be kind to you. Begin to work on knowing yourself. Check out other blogs here to help.
